HYBRID RACING IS RESHAPING THE CARDIO CATEGORY
HYROX has given gyms and athletes a standardized target: eight 1 km runs separated by eight workout stations. Two of those stations require 1,000 metres on a ski ergometer and 1,000 metres on a rower. Preparing for those efforts takes more than general cardio fitness. Athletes need repeatable pacing, controlled resistance and clear performance data.
Why HYROX changes cardio equipment demand.
Traditional cardio equipment is often presented by machine type: treadmills for running, rowers for full-body conditioning and ski trainers for upper-body endurance. HYROX connects several training methods inside one fixed race structure. The current rulebook describes eight 1 km runs and eight workout stations, including a 1,000 m SkiErg station and a 1,000 m rowing station.
That structure changes the buying conversation. A gym no longer needs to explain rowing or ski training as isolated activities. It can build sessions around transitions, target distances, repeatable splits and fatigue management. A distributor can present the same equipment as part of a recognizable training category rather than another general cardio option.
Training equipment does not need to be the official competition machine to serve this market. It must give coaches and users a practical way to develop the conditioning, pacing and movement familiarity that race preparation requires.
Is your 2027 lineup ready to tell the story?
The JKEXER 651 MagAir rower and 751 MagAir ski trainer are designed to support that style of preparation. MagAir helps distributors introduce a visible product difference and gives sales teams a simple reason to recommend an upgrade.
Why resistance control matters in race preparation.
Air resistance responds naturally to effort. As the user rows or pulls harder, the fan spins faster and resistance rises. This makes air-based equipment well suited to sustained conditioning and distance work. However, coaches may also want a higher training load at a controlled speed, particularly when they are developing strength endurance or programming shorter intervals.
JKEXER MagAir addresses both needs through a ten-level, two-stage resistance system. Levels 1 to 7 adjust the air damper and change the airflow entering the fan. Levels 8 to 10 keep the damper open and add magnetic resistance. The user can therefore move from familiar air-driven conditioning to a heavier load without changing machines.
Air + Magnetic, extending the challenge.
Hybrid Resistance
This innovative system not only gives users more resistance to progress, but also creates a distinctive product difference to your competitors.
The hybrid resistance range gives coaches more flexibility when planning sessions. Lower and middle settings suit technique, aerobic work and repeatable distance efforts. Higher settings can increase the force required for each stroke or pull. The aim is not to make every session harder. It is to select resistance that matches the purpose of the workout.
Programmed to Race
While resistance controls how the exercise feels, the console shows how the athlete is performing. This distinction matters in HYROX preparation because rowing and ski stations are measured by distance, and athletes must manage their effort while already fatigued from running and other workout stations.
The JKEXER MagAir console displays the measures needed for structured rowing and ski sessions:
- Time, distance and calories for general workout tracking
- Stroke count and strokes per minute for cadence control
- Watts and average data for power-based training
- Time per 500 metres for rowing and ski pacing
- Drag factor for a more consistent view of the resistance setting
Quick Start supports simple distance or time efforts. Target workouts give a session a defined endpoint, while interval training allows coaches to alternate work and recovery periods. The console can store up to 20 workout records, helping users compare sessions and monitor consistency.
Bluetooth FTMS connectivity also allows the equipment to exchange workout data with compatible fitness applications. JKEXER lists FTMS, heart-rate connectivity and support for compatible apps in the product specifications. This gives operators another way to add guided or connected experiences without changing the machine’s core training purpose.
How the console supports HYROX-focused sessions.
A useful HYROX training session should answer a specific question. Can the athlete hold a planned 500 m pace? Can they maintain stroke rate after a run? Does power fall during repeated intervals? Console data turns these questions into measurable sessions.
- Race-distance practice: complete 1,000 m while monitoring time per 500 m and stroke rate.
- Compromised pacing: run before the machine interval, then compare the split with a rested attempt.
- Strength endurance: use a higher MagAir setting for short efforts while tracking watts.
- Repeatability: use equal work and recovery periods, then compare pace across every interval.
These sessions are examples for training design, not official HYROX programming. Coaches should adjust resistance, volume and recovery to the athlete’s level and current condition.
